It could very easily be that weatherstripping (or whatever) though it is pretty eaten away on our 9-5s and I haven't noticed whistling per se. That doesn't mean that a different car might not have different symptoms. You could do a quick scotch tape wrap over the gap to see if the sound goes away. Have you checked to make sure the mirror glass is not coming loose?
Even more basic, and I almost apologize for mentioning it, except that it has happened to me many times.... Have you checked that all the windows (and sunroof) are fully up and seated properly in their gaskets? So many times I hear an annoying whistle and somebody has bumped one of the window switches so the window looks closed but opened a tiny annoying crack...
