I replaced the fuel pump on my 07 wagon once, and few years later the pump died again. having spent hours 4-5 doing the pump by the book, I had a "dream"
I got determined to replace fuel pump IN - sito.
SO I " DREAMED" I took tin snips and folded 4" of under seat metal towards the rear of the car. Access assured.
Next I took exacta knife and circumference cut the hard plastic fuel lines in the valley between the first and second "Ferrell" . when line inserted from factory there are 3 Ferrells ( ridges ) . the lines are under static pressure from factory the first cut of the line only let rest of line ( towards center of pump ) split away. Having done pump factory way year before, I KNEW ( in my dream ) the lines could have ability to be pulled closer to pump with no problem. so losing 3.4 " of each line was no biggie at all.
fitted new pump assembly, and when lines were to be filtted, when dry and clean I wrapped cloth electrical tape 2 inches back on each hose. there are long needle nose pliers that have ~3/4 in curved halves at the end that securely gripped the hose w/o flattening, OR CREASING line. yet I could push/pull hose end well.
Then I heated di-electric grease in a metal measuring cup to 300F just turns liquid and dipped the very end of fuel hose in hot grease oil and immediately "Offered" hose end ( with one ferrell already there )
and it slip easily to seat deep over all 3 ridges. ( 2 ferrells fully over the ferrells ridges will hold fine) 30-35 PSI remember.
Metal flap in back of access portal under seat was refolded forward, epoxy the gap, then refrigerant black cork tape and all was well for fitting fuel pump cover plate.
I woke up and realized I am not a shop owner, shop technician and wide awake I realized no one should do anything but factory manual procedure and also I disclaim any responsibility for anyone else dreaming or doing the same procedure described above.
