Well, yes and no.

Knowing the total cost of the lease during its term is a great step, and certainly better than simply knowing the monthly payment. But, you are in a much better negotiating position if you know exactly how dealers came up with the offers they are presenting. If you get two offers, and can only figure out which is the better deal between those two, you really aren't in a position to effectively negotiate the lower offer down, or even to get the other guy to do anything more than a simple match. And then there is the matter of the down payment...which involves your cash flow and use of money over time...

Also, if you are considering leasing and then buying, as a number of people who lease Saabs are, then it would help to know the overall cost of the lease/purchase.

Another important issue: unless you know how leases are structured, you can really get taken to the cleaners.
