Some thoughts on leasing and Saabs and life. Saabs do not sell for MSRP--so the dealer's current offer isn't exactly "$6500 off." We really don't know how much the dealer is making because we don't know about ALL of the incentives and spiffs that Saab is running to encourage the dealers to move the cars off the lots to make room for the new models. As a result, we can't really come up with a percentage for their profit.

A year ago we got our wagon for $150 over invoice, and today our friend wrapped a deal at $600 under invoice. As far as I know, this dealership is not declaring bankruptcy. Near invoice and under invoice deals are quite possible at the end of the model year for Saabs. The fact that SaabUSA offers incentives of $5000 or even $6750 (in the case of the sedan) underscores the fact that MSRP isn't a real number.

For those of us who keep our cars for a while, and enjoy them all the while, we know we are getting a steal. BUT, if we bought these cars for these kinds of "screaming deals" and expected to "double our money" in a year or two by turning around and selling them...we would get robbed.
