I'm assuming this is Performance Saab you're talking about that wants this kind of ridiculous loot? That's crazy. It's rough going being a Saab owner here in Houston. I had hoped Performance would be good to deal with... Momentum was always a royal pain.
The only independent shop I've found that I trust whatsoever in Houston is called Texas Automotive Performance. It's owned by a Swede named Thomas Larson. Shop is out I-10 just past the beltway. I'd trust him to do brakes for you if the dealer is being ridiculous.
Other options I'd consider are taking a weekend trip to Dallas, Austin, or San Antonio and visiting the Saab dealers there. I don't have personal experience with any of them as far as service. The sales people at Roger Beasley in Austin are jackasses in my opinion. Have no experience with the San Anton or Dallas dealerships, which I believe share common ownership.
Good luck and give a wave if you see a fellow Saaber on the road around town...we're rare in these here parts.
