Got mine home today - drove 600 miles from Atlanta, no problems.
How to buy on Ebay:
1. I think it's better to buy from a dealer with a reputation to protect. Check the dealer's feedback; I bought from a guy with perfect feedback, sold close to 200 cars. There are dealers selling almost exclusively thru ebay now.
2. Ask the typical 9-5 questions - blue smoke, interior display, etc. Tell the dealer that if you see blue smoke, you're not buying, even if you've come a long way, so let's not waste each other's time. Ask the dealer to be sure to disclose any and all defects in advance.
3. You can hire a mechanic to look the car over for you - about $100. I didn't, but I felt confident in the dealer.
4. Check the car's value vs. the black book value on cars.com. You should shoot for a price about 30% higher than trade-in maximum. I got a steal - paid $11,400 for a '99 with 4-cyl - not SE, but has leather and everything else I'd want, 64K miles.
5. Look for auctions with no reserve price. You can get a better price with these auctions. Plus the dealers are setting the reserves too high right now, and most of the 9-5's aren't selling because of that.
6. If you fly in to pick up your car, be prepared to walk away if something is wrong, and you can't negotiate the price down. Have a ride or plan to get back to the airport.
7. Buy AAA for the drive home.
I'm getting mine checked at the dealer Monday.
Good luck
