Use normal Car polish to get all the dirt etc off.What will be should be left is the scratches. Modern cars have a clear layer of paint over the base colour layers, so getting in deeper is troublesome and will leave what appear to be discolouring, if you are carefull however you can try a metal or brass pollish on the remaining scratches. this ctually contains a fine rubbing compound.
