I find it hilarious that the BB has more knowledge than SAAB---the original manufacturer of the car.
SAAB CARS USA recommendation is STILL semi-synthetic 5W-30 for 9-5 cars per their bulletin of 12/02/2002.
The SAAB FACTORY owners manuals say their BASIC RECOMMENDATION is semi-synthetic 5W-30/0W-30/5W-40, API SJ.
They (SAAB FACTORY) have millions of miles of testing to back this. What does ANYONE on this BB have to contest/come close to this?
Answer: NOTTA/NOTHING
but personal opinions....
Quoting again from SAAB:
Model Year 2003 "9-5 and 9-3 CONVERTIBLES" --remember this is the OLD 9-3 CV:
QUOTE:
9-5, 9-3 Convertible Service Intervals/Requirements: Requires Semi-Synthetic oil whic meets ACEA A3/B3, API SJ or Higher.
For 2003, the 9-5 and the 9-3 Convertible requirements remain the same as 2002. Oil changes are REQUIRED every 10,000 miles under normal driving conditions. For the purpose of SAAB NO CHARGE SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE, only SAAB semi- synthetic should be used....."
END QUOTE.
Mobil 1 FULL SYNTHETIC 5W-30/10W-30/0W-30 FAR EXCEED this by virtue of the fact they are FULL SYNTHETIC products.
0W-40 FULL synthetic is the EXTREME RECOMMENDATION.
DECIDE HOW YOU THE OWNER DRIVE YOR SAAB.
If you change your oil every 5,000 miles, buy the Mobil 1 5W-30 at Wal-Mart and enjoy your car to its fullest.
If you typically can't remember when to change your oil, and/or you race it on Saturday nights, and/or you drive the AUTOBAHN, then get the 0W-40 Mobil 1.
EASY choices. Already in the manual. Already sent to EVERY USA dealer.
Recommended by the people who back up your cars with their $$$$. = SAAB CARS USA.
While I love this BB, when I ANALYZE THE FACTS of SAAB's experiences vs this BB----I'm going with SAAB.
