The 2.3L will tend to vibrate more at low speeds than at higher rpms. It has to do with second order forces acting on the pison as it transfers force to the cylinder walls, and connecting rod vertically, and horizontally at different points in the stroke as the crankshaft rotates. At higher engine rpms, certain of these forces are more predominate and are cancelled out by the balancing shafts.
According to the shop manual, at speeds lower than 1800 rpm the balancer shafts are unable to counteract engine vibration. Hydrolic engine mountings are supposed to dampen vibrations at lower engine speeds.
If the vibration you're feeling is unusually rough, you might want to have the engine mounts looked at.
