Clearly no one here can tell you what you should buy, and we're a bit biased. When I saw the 9-5 a few years back I loved the style of the car--not showy or pretentious like some cars in this price range (I can't understand what the new Jags are about for example). I like it's understated, competent looks, and it drives very well.
We leased a base '99 9-5 and when that came due I opted to move up to an Aero. I loved the '99, but the Aero is, imho, worth the extra money. It goes about as fast as I want to go. Acceleration and passing power are great, I love the way it responds, and I look forward to driving.
I like some of the new models hitting the streets these days, especially the G35. But it also seems to be a bit showy, and in a few years I'm not sure how much I'd like that. I'm very happy with the 2001 Aero (which have only got better with each year) and expect to be driving it for years to come--happily.
