there was $3K of damage. Forget about the cosmetic stuff for a moment, the force of that impact has to go somewhere in the car. There are all kinds of bits attached to the bumpers and frame rails to dissipate that energy, and many of them will need to be replaced. Don't let the insurance company or the body shop lock you into an estimate until they've had a chance to start taking it apart and seeing hidden damage.
My body shop had to go back to the insurer 2 or 3 times as they found stuff, and I'm not 100% sure they even got everything! You need to watch out for stuff as basic as do the back doors still line up, is the sunroof OK, the muffler and cat, and how about the pretensioners etc. in the seatbelt systems? All these systems are interconnected and need to be carefully examined, preferably by a Saab service dept. after the body shop is done. IMHO, of course.
