My ideal would be to get a thin computer with a front loading DVD, load it up with GPS and wireless ethernet (key encrypted with wake on lan), and store it under the passenger seat. Then connect it to a touch screen on a swivel arm anchored on the end of the center console on the passenger side (behind the seat, this way it can swivel from the back to the front for input). Beef up the alternator and battery in the car and run XP on the system.

Benefits of this system are DVD movies in the car, access to the computer from the your home network, as well as the ability to sychronize your home desktop with your car computer. You can also theoreticaly access saabnet from your car - particularly useful when doing weekend project in your garage - no need to print out papers!

I think this can be done for relatively cheap with off the shelf parts.
