I agree tires are a major wear item. I don't believe that low profile nescessarily means high rate of wear however. I think the higher wear is the result of the softer, grippier rubber used in the higher performance tires that are standard on the Aero. IMHO, better rubber is the first upgrade that can improve the safety and performance of any car.
All that being said, low profile tires are more expensive.
The life span of of your Aero will be more a function of the care & feeding you give it.
After a year and a half and 41K miles, I am still thrilled with my Aero!
