I've experienced the same thing in my 2002 Linear Wagon. I also own a 99 2.3 base auto sedan and though the engine is stronger in the wagon, I think that the shifts are not coordinated or timed as well with the engine as those on 4 spd. sedan. Around town, where the speed limits are generally 45-55, I've gotten in the habit of driving in 4 instead of Drive with the wagon because it seems to shift a somewhat better this way.
