I just did the same.
You want the tires with the most tread up front. Get a tire tread guage. A sliding caliper depth measurement works well too. One can often pick out the tires with greater tread depth by eye.
The edges if the tread blocks will be quite sharp from tires that were on the rear. The front tires will have more rounded edges on the tread blocks.
If your tires are directional, there will be arrows showing the direction of rotation at that will let you sort out the left from the right.
If you have P-zeros the torque will tear out the corners of the acute angles on the tread blocks and that will tell you right from left from any tire that has been on the front.
Marking right and left on the back of allow wheels is a good idea. There are exposed as-cast areas at the hub contact area that can be used. Use a scriber or metal stamps. On my 95SET I marked them left, right, front and rear. With rotations, the fronts might become the rear, but if both fronts were on the rear axle together it made sense. Perhaps 1R, 1L, 2L and 2R could be used.
