new tires/wheels - occasional rub Posted by Peter [Email] (#2804) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Peter) on Thu, 5 Apr 2001 21:31:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Just went from 225/50-16 to 225/45-17. I am occasionally getting a wheel-body rub that I did not have previously. Seems to occur most frequently with a combination of a turn and bump together. But has occurred once or twice when cruising through an intersection with a decent dip in it. Seems to be mainly front wheels, but I thought I heard something in the rear while turning recently when I was carrying 3 adult passengers.
Overall diameter increased by about 0.2 inches (from 24.8 to nearly 25.0 in) and width actually decreased by 0.3 inches (from 9.2 to 8.9 in), so why do I get the rub now? Furthermore, this is the tire-wheel size recommended by Saab for 1+ sizing.
I do have Bilstein shocks and B+G springs, but since the 225/50-16 didn't rub, I wasn't expecting it now. Can I adjust the spring position on the Bilsteins? I'm getting an oil change Monday and will have my shop look at it as well.
