These were the 2 that made my short list this past spring. I really liked the TL Type S, and the tons of confidence the Acura badge projects. It also had great power, was quiet(er), handled very well, and had navigation system available. Initial cost plus depreciation were the best of all cars I looked at (Saab included). However, it was significantly smaller inside, barely making my minimum requirements. The driving experience was more disconnected, and it had cookie-cutter plain looks in and out. The last TL Type S test drive I pushed it hard (duly impressed), then went to drive the 9-5 Arc (not even Aero!) in comparison. As soon as I sat inside the 9-5, I knew what my answer was. Interior size and road "connectedness" of the 9-5 were the deciding factors. Arc's early torque curve compensated a bit for the lower hp under "normal" driving conditions (and then again, there's always the Aero).
TL Type S is a great car with certain advantages (price, depreciation, hp, navigation), but Saab provided more of what I was looking for.
