Saab recognizes that they will lose some customers by putting only 4 big holes in the engine block. Fact is, there's a new V-6 in the wings, at least for the next 9-5. The current V-6 is about maxxed out at 200 hp, so the only way to get a (needed) performance boost "under" the Aero is to put in a bumped-up 4. You can't have a 220 hp linear and a 200 hp Arc, so the V-6 goes.
I haven't seen the European model descriptions yet, but I suspect they will be selling 9-5s with 2.0 LPT and HOT, 2.3 LPT, FPT, and Aero, along with the 2.2 TiD and 3.0 TiD.
Ah to be nearer the factory and in a land with minimal regulation, and with USA fuel and product prices. If we are very good for the rest of our lives, we may be so rewarded in the after life.
