OK. There are only 16,600 miles. I drive everyday in stop and start traffic in the Chicago area, which means go-slam-on-brake-go. The best INDY Saab mechanic mentioned that I'd need pad replacement within a few thousand miles as it was down to 4mm when I was in the other day to get a non-warranty oil change. If it is any consolation that INDY master technician said this was one of the earliest replacements he'd seen on a Saab recently. The quote was $250 using genuine Saab parts for the front brake pads. (The rear pads still have some decent life). Anyway, even before this was brought up to me I could feel the wear in the brake when I'd press on the pad--no, there is not that scraping sound made as when the rotors are affected.
Again, I commend you all for doing this yourself, but there are people like me that are not going to do this themselves as the work week is too long and the weekend too short. Car repair is simply not my thing, which doesn't mean that I don't have other worthy things that I do. So, you know, if you all have any further comments on whether $250 is a decent price then I welcome then. Thanks again.
