As "Click and Clack" say, "It's the cheapskate who pays the most." If you ask the dealer to do just the "free" timing belt, he won't replace the idler pulleys that the belt runs on, etc. that should be done at the same time (and that SAAB doesn't pay for). As a result, the timing cover could well have to come off again sooner than it otherwise would, and you'll have to get the job done right (including another timing belt) much sooner than otherwise, this time completely at your expense (which could be very high if the belt breaks due to a seized pulley and you need a new engine).

That said, the estimate sounds high, and you might want to shop around for an indie to do the fluid changes/flushes that dealers charge an arm and a leg for. Nothing says you have to get the whole 60K service done in one place.
