Hi All,
Just some observations after a year with an '02 Aero automatic. I drive 35,000+ miles a year, and this year about 2/3 of that has been in my Aero bought at the end of last July. I can honestly report no problems at all. Well, the only exceptions to that would be a slightly loose radio speaker in the driver's door, fixed at about 15K miles, and an occasional noise coming from the A/C on start up (I think some of you have referred to it as an expansion valve).
Of interest to some would be my return home from a business trip on Wednesday. I live in North Central Arizona and had gone out to the Havasu/Bullhead City/Laughlin area. Leaving Bullhead for Kingman at 1:00 PM, it was 113 degrees F, with a 6-7% thirteen mile grade straight ahead. This took me from an elevation of 500 ft. to 3000 ft, where the temp. was 100 degrees. The turbo had to spin kind of hard, but no sign of strain and no upward move of the temp. needle at all. I passed a number of vehicles, but no one passed me. The highest elevation I later reached (near Flagstaff) was 7335 ft., and my speed was at or slightly above 75 MPH most of the way. Of course, plenty of A/C, and fuel milage, as calculated at the pump when I got home was 28.6 MPG! A superb kind of car for my kind of driving, even if I still wonder myself about the wisdom of driving cars (my other car is an Audi)that cannot be serviced in the remote places I go.
Onstar is great, too. When I needed to call my wife at 4:00, and was out of digital range, it proved to be a good backup. I've never had trouble with Onstar, and I've purposely used it in the most of remote places as a test. I know most folks discuss problems here, but this may be of interest to some one or two of you, especially if you are contemplating driving in hot and remote parts of the country.
