i just recently acquired a 1999 base 9-5 w/ 78000 miles and find it to be an excellent car.

today however, i was driving down a rural twisty road in a light rain and had just about taken a corner when the CEL (solid, not blinking) and battery warning light came on. the steering wheel became very heavy (i guess the power steering went out) so i pulled over to the side of the road and shut off the engine. after about ten seconds i started it up again and there were no warning lights, so i drove the rest of the way home. in my driveway, i checked the manual to see what was up and regarding the battery indicator it said to check the alternator(?) belt or something, which i did and it was still intact. there didn't seem to be any smoke or anything and i don't recall hearing any abnormal engine sounds. i do have a 60-day warranty on the car so i can probably get it fixed - if they knew what to look for - any ideas as to what might have happened? i don't want to get stranded on some back road...

also, does the "test brake light" message come up on the sid every time you start the car?
