Replacing the banjo bolt will not fix the smoke. The problem with the
banjo bolt is that it allows coolant to flow in the reverse direction
with bad effect on turbo cooling. The coolant flows in reverse if the
turbo is used hard before the engine is warm (bad driving habit). The
The bad effect on the turbo cooling will then destroy the turbo seals.
If this has happened it is to late to replace the banjo bolt, only a
replacement of the turbo will. Detaching the exhaust from the turbo
and looking for oil inside the turbo is a way to see if this is the
problem. This is, however, not the only reason for the smoke cloud.
I drive very careful and still had the smoke cloud. Initially I was
sure that it was due to oil, but now I think it is caused by too rich
air/fuel mix during startup. I noticed that I did only get the smoke cloud
when the engine did not start on the first revolution. After regapping
the spark plugs to the smallest gap allowed and removing the battery
connection for a couple of minutes (to make the Trionic do a new
adaption) I haven't seen the smoke cloud. YMMV.
