It may be a leaking clutch slave or master or a defective pressure plate that isn't allowing the clutch to diengage. Will it slip right into gear with the engine off? With the engine running does it go in more easily after a you wait awhile. That would be a very postive indication of clutch problems. In my experience the clutch is the most likely canidate for the situation you describe.
