*if* you have on-board oil monitoring, you can change according to its reading with some confidence (I tell my friends to change at "50%" on the monitor and then again at 0%) - even that translates into a 7500 mile change interval for monitors calibrated against GM LL 025 - but you MUST use the quality grade against which the monitor is calibrated. For Saab 9-3s and apparently Opel Vectras, that's GM LL 025.
If your car doesn't have an oil monitor (and this *is* the 9-5 forum, so if you're here, your car doesn't) then either you're guessing or you're doing regular laboratory oil analyses. IF you're guessing, and you're reading this forum, you're probably guessing way conservative and thus compliance with GM LL-025 is irrelevant. I agree - you should use ACEA A3/B3 rated oil. That's what they use at the factory, and that is the primary recommendation in the manual.
