Called a "stud remover" or something, which bought for a different purpose but never used. Consists of two parallel steel plates, between which is a third. The in-between one is round and has a knurled edge. The outer ones have a hole drilled, and the middle one has an offset pivot. You slip the assembly over a broken-off stud and as you turn a bolt head, the in-between plate tightens up against the stud, allowing you to remove it.
The other way, one that actually worked for me, was to have a big mother nut welded over the stud. This can then be used now and forever, so long as you are the only one ever to touch it. Let any other person install it on your car and they will certainly snap your oil pan into pieces...
Also, way #2 brings to mind a third way - ***if*** you had a reverse thread die and a reverse thread nut to go over it, you could simply thread the stud and use the nut...
Someone should put together a kit and rent it out...
