The application has good qualities and other manufacturers seem to get past the destructive properties of heat with this electronic doo-hickey.
This is my 5th Saab - i love them and something really bad would have to happen for me to switch. I've been going to the same dealership for the past 11 years, they've gone through some ownership changes over the years, but recently i feel that they aren't even pretending to work to my benefit as they have over the years.
When my previous 9000s (91 & 94) DI's went, luckily it was under warranty. The second one for the 91 was paid for out of pocket at 130K, i think, no problem. The 94 seems as though it will need one soon, which is now at about 130K, and again i'll gladly pay for that.
But this 9-5 one just dies (at 40K no less) and then you're done, unless you've got the spare, which i shall get now. The improved design seems less improved for more expense.
Maybe the 9-3 one will be a truly improved design and survive to at least 80K or better; and then they'll apply it to our 2.3L engines.
Hopefully, i'll get somewhere - thanks for the info.
