Nokian and Blizzaks

Hi Tom,
I have had two Saab Aero's. On my '02 sedan, I put Nokian WR's on the stock Alloys in 225/45-17 fitment. They were superb and I had no faults with them - but my winter driving was confined to southeastern Massachusetts. this time around, on my '03 Aero Wagon, I fitted Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50's in 225/50-16 fitment on Borbet Type E's (16x7.5). I just returned from 500+ miles in northern Vermont in various cruddy/snowy/icy mountainous conditions and was very impressed with the Blizzak's. They are a little too noisy on wet pavement, but I have never experienced such winter tire performance before. I have used Michelin Arctic Alpins and Pirelli P-210's as well (but not the Hakka's). It's not a controlled experiment, of course, as they have been fitted to different cars at different times (BMW's, Audi's Honda's). The Nokian WR's on my previous Audi's were such a great combo - because I had the additional capacity of AWD. But, these Blizzaks were so competent - I did not miss the Audi (or the SUV which stayed home).
Good luck,
eric
