A friend and I both have 9000s. I've got the Saab bars, he got the adapter from Thule, which is likely the same or similar as the 9-5. The foot of the Thule adapter fits into only one of the two holes provided by Saab, the rest of the support is provided by a rubber foot which rests on the roof of your car. Attachment to the roof is with an allen wrench.
If you are going to use the rack a fair amount, and keep the car for a few years, I'd go with the Saab version. Nothing touches your roof, and dust and dirt that collects under the Thule feet will scratch or even wear through the paint. If the system is the same as my friend's, putting the rack on and taking it off is a lot of putzing around compared to Saab's rack. Plus if you lose your allen wrench, you are stuck. The Saab rig is very strong and clean.
The difference in price, as mentioned in the above threads as $35 vs $90, is not that great considering the utility and protection for your roof. Keep your Thule bars for another car, or sell them off to pay for your Saab system. I kept my bars....
