We are all not "nuts" as you say. Only those who try to do this withouf first having the SID set t othe "DATE" display page. As long as you have it showing the date,all you have to do is press and hold in the clear button until the Time for service message goes away, then pres and hold it in again until the word clear appears. The trouble is that the manual tells you that it takes about 4 seconds for these things to happen, but it is more like 10 seconds.
Another alternative is when you are in at your delaers for anything, have them hook up the tech 2 to the car and extend the interval betwween service messages to the max allowable interval, which is 150,000 miles. That is my preferred way to deal with this annoying"feature".
