Volvo reliability a big Q and not quirky

[Questionable] I personally love the Volvo wagon, especially in black or red. But from about the time they changed over to the new designations back in 1998 (S70 rather than 850, S90 rather than 960, V70 wagon rather than 850 wagon, etc.) their quality has really gone down hill. Still a superbly built vehicle as I still drive them from time to time, I know 2 people that have had nightmares with their late model Volvos, one an S40 the other the new XC90. Volvo's used to be totally bullet proof and didn't break (much). I have a friend's mom that used to have an '88 240DL sedan while I was growing up with over 200k miles and she LOVED it. This is the same woman that now despises her XC90; claims they aren't building them like they used to.
On the other hand, SAABs are rated as consumer reports recommended vehicles, and rate quite highly on the red circle charts. Those charts look as if they're from an Asian car. I'd suggest an extended warranty on either car, but overall I'd just suggest getting a certified 9-5 wagon. I think you'll be happy in the end.
Good luck,
buddy
