1) I would have the motor replaced. Like many others have said, the $3800 is far less than the cost of anew car.
2) ait may be possible to repair your old engine, but why? It will involve more labor and time to remove, rebuld, and reinstall your existing engine. At the end it will still have 60K more miles than the engine you are being offered for $3800.
3) Don't try to fit a V6. Although it would be possible to fit this engine, too many other things would have to be changed also. You may be looking at nearly the price of a new car to do this retrofit. The newer L4's have slightly more power but it might be less expensive to install the quoted engine and then add an ECU upgrade if you really want the power.
4) Not sure what others would pay, but your car would be worth more than those with 100K on both chassis and engine.
