I have a 7-speaker 9-5. The weakest leak by far were the rear door speakers. I eliminated these and replaced them with Infinity Kappa 3-way speakers in the rear deck. While I was at it I went to a component system up front with 6 (or 6.5") woofers in the front doors, tweeters in the dash sides and left the center speaker as is. I have occasionally disconnected the center dash because it isn't quite matched to the others, but it does help center the image in front and is currently connected.
Well worth the investment.
Note: I found if the radio is off and you push the Radio/band button and On at the same time, the radio will cycle through each speaker individually. It helps to check overall level balance which one can adjust with fader or balance. However, there is no way (at least that I have found) to decrease the level of the front center channel.
