My wife and I have been debating back and forth on what to buy next. I need a daily driver, as my old beater is about clapped out (auto tranny - non saab - nuff said). I really have a need to build a shop, so I haven't really wanted to dump a lot of money into a newer automobile. I've been contemplating simply going out and buying an older 60's or 70's enthusiast european automobile that has been gone through by a previous owner (from a Volvo p1800 or 122s to a mercedes 220d). I like simplicty, and frankly, newer cars frighten me with their digital throttles and complicated computer systems.

But the 9-5 and 9-5 Aero have struck a chord with me and we are really contemplating buying one. I'm curious if there is someplace online (here or anywhere for that matter) that details all of the smaller quirks and over-time concerns for these automobiles. The aero appeals to me with its east-west engine configuration, chibby simplicity and overall great reviews. And if it is true that these cars last quite a while without major overhaul, I'd seriously consider one.

Here are some preliminary questions:

1. Computer controlled turbocharger - how often should I expect to have this rebuilt, and what kind of costs are associated with it?

2. Digital throttle - any history of these going south?

3. Wear part replacement costs - is there anything in the regular changing of wear parts that is a substantial expense beyond that of a normal four cylinder belt driven twin cam?

4. Warranty options - I've seen a few on the classifieds here with a variety of different warranty options and I'm curious if there is any reason to prefer a higher-mile (under 100k) warranty.

Thanks much for your time and consideration. It's about darned time I bought a nice car with some features and longevity instead of trying to nickle and dime an older car. Convince me. ;-)
