Several thoughts for you:
1) Price - As I understand it, you are saying "$44-5.5-2 for the Aero", or $37.5 That's not a great price, considering that Saab is kicking in 5,500. You should be able to get the dealer to move at least several more thou or you should try some other dealers. I paid only slightly more than that earlier in the year without ANY Saab incentive. The Saab $5.5 incentive is extremely generous, and it's now the dealer's turn to join in.
2) Performance #1: I had the same impression as you when I took my 9-5 Aero demo drives - I felt it didn't hold a candle to the aggressive power of my '92 9KT, which, at 150k miles, is one hot car. I was unimpressed. But, you have to remember that you are talking about a brand, spanking new engine. The new Aero engine is tight as hell. I've noticed a big improvement in performance as the miles have accumulated and it has continued to get better and better. I'm now at 7k, and it is getting quicker every day, and it pulls pretty nicely.
3) Performance #2: You have to seperate out speed from quickness. This car will never be as quick as your 900, but it will be one hell of a lot faster. I liken the 900 to a fighter - quick, a darter, but the Aero has much more power and will put the 900 in the dust from 60 on up.
4) Performance #3: The 9-5 is geared much higher than the 900, and also much higher than the 9KT. This higher gearing hides some of the engine power at lower speeds. Also, the torque curve is much flatter so you don't get as much turbo rush as you do in the older cars - the power is very much there, but it isn't "in your face" like it is in the older cars, it's more sophisticated.
5) The 9-5 is substantially more car than the 900 or the 9-3, and the Aero is wonderful. If you can swing the Aero, do it. You'll never look back.
