I haven't read that review yet, but that doesn't surprise me. The EuroVan, like its predecessors, is a niche vehicle. Either its many advantages make you forgive its shortcomings, or you buy something else. Many reviewers don't understand that, and wonder "Why someone would buy a Eurovan instead of a minivan?"
Here are a few of the reasons:
Interior room: Minivans claim to have 7 passenger seating. That usually means 7 adults and children with severely limited luggage space, or, removing the rear seat and carrying fewer passengers. Ever put three adults in the back seat of a minivan? The Eurovan has seating space for 7 adults with 20 cu. ft. left for luggage. It is more valid to compare the Eurovan to either a full-sized American van (Econoline etc.) or the largest of the SUVs.
Exterior dimensions: You get that much usable space in a package that is about the same length as a Saab 9-5...one that is three feet shorter than a Ford Excursion, 2 1/2 feet shorter than a Suburban, and a foot shorter than a Windstar.
*Fuel economy: We get 20 mpg overall, and 21.5 mpg on the highway cruising at 75 mph. That is not as good as a minivan, but much better than anything else that offers the same space except, maybe, a diesel Suburban.
*Towing capacity: It isn't going to win any races doing it...but you can pull up to a 4,400 lb. braked trailer.
*You will feel at home if you ever get a job as an ambulance driver or a FedEx driver in Europe! <g>
*It feels like a German van. In other words, "Why someone would buy a Eurovan instead of a minivan?" For the same reasons that you might buy a 9-5 instead of a Pontiac Bonneville. And, because the Mercedes V-class isn't exported to the U.S.!
