Not that it can make up for the distress you have encountered, but Saab's willingness to cover all repair costs without further discussion certainly prevents further heartache.
Your experience is unique. Although the DI Cassettes on the L4 engine get lots of negative postings here, I have to trust Mike Lynch's comments that percentage wise the L4 DI failures are no more frequent than ignition failures on other cars (being a long term Saab salesperson he hears the good and bad on a daily basis). The DI's on the V6 engine almost never fail. I believe yours is only the second or third that I have read about on this board, and people love to vent about problems! Melting wiring harnesses follow only a fraction DI failures, and fires are even more rare! No one will probably ever know why all three happened on your car, but the odds are so low that you can be confident it will never happen again.
Being the one-in-a-million owner who has this happen may not be a reassurance, but don't be afraid to love your car again.
