It will be very difficult to prove either/or for several years to come since some cars gets the update and others don't when getting a new IDM installed.

Most DIY replaced and many indy shops doesn't have the download capabilties so that will create a big pool of cars running new IDMs with old software.

Hopefully, all cars repaired through the dealer will have the new software installed when the IDM is replaced.

But since the old IDMs fail between 20 and 150K miles how are we gonna get any reliable figures out of that.

This is what Saab says about the new software patch.

"Support for Tech 2 special function to detect Ignition Discharge Module failure. Improved control of ignition trig drivers to protect Ignition Discharge Module. Cold engine protection implemented. Improved CC tip in / out. Improved knock detection."
