If you think the rims are bent, you can check them real quick on your driveway. All you need is a yard stick, pencil, cinder-block/brick, duct tape, and a floor jack. Tape the yard stick to the cinder-block. Then tape the pencil to the yard stick, tip close to the bead of the rim. Jack it up and spin the wheel and tire. If it's bent you will see it move up or down, in or out, in relationship to the pencil tip. If you have a dial indicator and magnetic base, you can get measurements. When they spin the rims on the balancer, you should be able to see the rim going 'up and down' or 'side-to-side' if they are bad. I have a set of custom rims that are 0.125" out side-to-side and 0.125" up-and-down. It vibrates at 75 mph and up.
I know what you mean about damage fron the dealers. When I went in for the wheel lug update, my local dealer dropped the impack socket on the car and caught it up against the fender with his leg. Thanks for the scratch and chip in the paint. Is it a GM thing or are all dealers bad?
