My 2001 9-5 3.2L LPT has about 10000 miles on it. I bought the car used, with about 9,000 miles on it. I just had the 10,000 mile service performed (free), including oil change with Saab oil. I am considering (strongly) switching to a full synthetic oil since I have read here (and elsewhere) about the benefits of synthetic. Also, BMW Porsche and MB all use synthetic in their cars, so I figure with an endorsement like that synthetic must really provide superior protection. However, somebody told me that once an engine has used semi-synth or 'natural' oils that you shouldn't switch to full synthetic. What do you think? Is 10000 miles enough to say 'stay with semi-synth' or will it be OK to switch? If I keep with Saab oil I'm going to change the oil at 5000 mile intervals, if I go synthetic I'll stretch it to 7500 (city driving). Thanks for the help.
