Wacky ACC Pixel Display

OK, before I take my '99 9-5 to my indie, hoping to pull some fault codes with his Tech II analyzer, why does my ACC display sometimes act like it wants to communicate in Klingon!!! That is to say, after reading all the Saabnet horror stories about expensive imminent failure after getting a "code 8" display, I do the "Auto" and "Off" button recalibration and I get what I hope to be a "0", except I've had pixel disappearance problems for years and it could be an "8" but the system seems to return to normal operation. HOWEVER, when returning to operation, virtually all of the system icons appear to glow dimly and the "C" for centigrade temperature is also dimly lit!! If the system appears to be working for all modes, is there a poor display grounding or other connector problem which scrambles my display? Is this essentially the same as my unrepaired SID display problem?? Can it be fixed by one of the SID connector repair methods suggested by Saabnet contributors?? OR...is it an inevitable decline to total failure at any time?? (If Saab had chosen ANYONE ELSE BUT LUCAS to supply these components, perhaps there would never be such problems!! Any comments or ingenious solutions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx,
Kirk D.
