part-time four wheel drive, which is not all wheel drive (as I'd quantify all wheel drive). It's supposedly bad to drive a part-time 4wd if the wheels cannot slip. What happens to me is the following: I'll drive the back roads, which have 4-5 inches of snow on them, then get to the highway. The highway is plowed, so there's no real reason for 4wd, but I cannot get my Jeep out of 4wd unless I back up. Thus, I drive the vehicle on a road that won't let the front wheels slip, but I have to.
If it has selectrac, then it does have all wheel drive. I'd characterize 4wd as where all four wheels are powered with the same amount of power (ignoring the differential). All wheel drive allows the power to vary between front and rear wheels.
