Is to have another independent shop look at your pads and rotors and see if you still have enough material in them to legally avoid having to do the job. Many times a shop will suggest that you need brakes or other service items not because they are trying to screw you, but because they think you would rather get those done well before you need to schedule a visit unexpectedly due to a safety issue. Saab has minimum thickness specs for both the pads and the rotors that constitute sufficient material that you need not do the job. Perhaps your car will fall in this range. If you are planning on leasing that next Saab from the same dealer who told you you need the brakes, you should have some negotiating power over him/her on this brake job.
