Who all has given up on their foglights??

I have an '00 Aero, and while I love my Saab, the foglight design is stupid, stupid, stupid! Flimsy plastic brackets? Anyway, you can probably see where this is going.
Bascially I keep having to re-epoxy one of them back together (as the cost to replace them is ridiculous). And it seems as though as soon as I get it "fixed", either I (or my wife-to-be) will gently touch the front end against pavement pulling out of a parking lot and the light will be broken again.
The foglights are nice to have. They work really well, and I like having them. But I don't want to have to keep replacing/breaking them either, as the cost for these are pretty exorbitant.
How many have just given up and taken them out and put plastic panels in instead? Seems like a real bummer, and frustrating, but it seems like it's definitely the cost-effective solution since the lights seem doomed to keep breaking all the time.
Why didn't Saab make these out of METAL? Crazy.
Anyway, thought I'd get some opinions on this one...
