The Aero is a combination of style, comfort, speed and agressive handling. With the Wagon, add distinctive and practical. Arc is a little more tame. But can be modified for some relatively insane power, but that takes some serious money.
Drive an Aero and then decide. These vehicles can last a very long time when properly maintained. But they do not tolerate cheap oil and neglected oil changes.
Basic maintenance on the 9-5's is quite easy if you are into DIY for oil changes and brakes etc.
With the Aero option, that does not make too much sense if you expect to run it on regular grade octane. And it handles very well. To take advantage of the handling and power, you need performance tires that are relatively expensive. So its a different class of beast and will cost more to operate. And it may not be as reliable as the 4R. But if you get hooked on the Saab, then you live with it.
The 9-5's get good gas mileage. Compared to your 4R, you may use a lot less gas. But you will be paying more per gallon.
Ground clearance on the Aero's is quite low. No problem unless you have a steep transition at a driveway etc. These vehicles are great in the snow. With an Aero and its performance tires, another set of wheels (16") and good snow tires is a must. With an ARC, the stock tires might be ok for some snow duty. I am a nut about having real snow tires, so I really can't speak to how other tires perform in the snow.
The automatic transmission works very well with the turbo engine and is very responsive and fast. Does some things that the manual gear box cannot. Manual GB Aero Wagons can be hard to find.
You would probably be happiest with the Wagon after the 4R. It is distictive and can haul a reasonable amount of people and stuff.
Any troublesome aspects to these vehicles? Yes, but the Saab addicts overlook this. The one universal vulerabilty is the direct ignition cassette (DI/DIC). These can be had for $300 on the net and some just carry a spare, some do not. If you cannot live with that, move on.
