Raises trunk floor..... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Tue, 18 Jan 2005 17:43:06 In Reply to: Full Size Spare, OKSaabs, Tue, 18 Jan 2005 16:46:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
In the sedan the standard wheel makes the trunk floor sit a couple of inches higher. It's fine in the wagon as there's extra space under the wagons higher floor.
Reasons not to carry a full size spare besides trunk room, are crash safety, the mini performs better, and weight, the mini is lighter, which is ultimately fuel mileage. Somebody once calculated how much fuel you save over the life of the car and it seemed significant at the time as I remember. Flats are pretty rare and the mini spare works fine for temporariry duty. The mini spare is also much easier to mount for less then man sized folks.
