door glass scratching solved, not even clip related.

I installed one of my two new door glass on pas. door today & discovered an interesting thing that may be of interest to others doing this & not mentioned by Townsend or the service bul.
I have a '91 with major clip scratches & couldn't for the life of me figure out why Saab had issued a serv. bul. on clip mods in '88 but built my '91 with older (scratching) clips. Turns out my car has the newer clips but STILL managed to scratch the glass.
After eyeballing the door skin to glass clearance, I noticed it was too tight in the area where the scratching was & the scratches actually were from the BODY of the clip & not the trimmed end. The body actually bulges the rubber/felt a mm or so into excessive pressure to the glass, which I guess ends up scratching from small abrasive particles caught in between (road dust?).
Anyway, once the moldings & glass are removed, it's pretty simple to bend the door skin further out to increase runner/felt/clip to glass clearance. Just a few good & steady, heavy pulls with both hands will recontour that door arc & give you the clearance you really need to avoid any scratching. The top rubber mating to the glass seals any extra slack created just fine. The thing to watch is that too heavy a pull might buckle the door skin but that's a lot of pull to do that.
Finally, my days of cursing Saab's oversight in building my '91 with pre-'88 clips are over, since they didn't.
Hope this someday saves someone else a bit of nuisance.
