Further to this possible dead compressor, the hose assembly connecting to the compressor on my '90 was DOA when I bought the car. I noticed that the factory hoses from the evaporator and to the condensor were very loose at the connection points to the flared & crimped metal lines which bolt direct to the AC comprssr. My car had no R12 left, so I suspect the hoses leaked all of it away.
FYI - GAPA parts had an excellent replacement set of lines for this system, which also included new charging ports on each seperate line for LO side & HI side readings (the fittings and ports on the compressr are a bit puzzling & oddly labeled). Anyway the new lines were only $69, a new receiver dryer at AUTOZONE for $45, a Walmart 134A conversion kit at $35, my friends vacuum pump & AC gages and the new/old AC works like a champ!
I thought it funny the compressor is made in Japan by Seiko !
Good luck,
DET
