Removing bottom leather cover from front seat

My new (to me) SAAB front passenger seat is starting to come apart at one of the inside seams. Other then that the front seats are very nice. I figure that once I remove the leather cover, I can sew it up. Its only 1 inch long, and the thread is what broke, not the leather.
I have removed an upper seat cover, but never a lower one. I figure it can't be that hard, since it comes out to fix a seat heater.
Does anyone have any tips before I go at it?
Also, my mother (bless her soul) , recomends stiching it back up by hand useing the same holes. She also thinks I should use fishing line, or some type of special thread, rather then normal thread.
What do you guys think?
The rear seat isn't so hot. It isn't that it is bad, its just not the right shade of tan. Its the origional orangey color(88-), and the front seats are the prettier tan color (89+) I think I am gonna get a new one from SAABSTUFF, any thoughts on that? They seem pretty knolegeable.
BTW, its a Convertable, so the junkyard isn't an option for the back seat.
Thanks!!
