3,000 miles is probably cheap overkill, 5,000 is fine and 7,500 is what the engineers say, use that as the limit. The more stop&go or dusty/high heat conditions you have should force a earlier change. There will probably be nothing immediately catastrophic happening if you go too long, what you get is a wearing on the close tolerances of rings and bore, bearings etc that contributes to an early retirement. Occasionally you see a 3-4 year old Camry that emits a white smoke because the owner didn't do the routine maintenance "because its leased" which scares me if thats commonplace as I always buy used. Japanese cars have particularly close tolerances that are hurt by dirty oil.
Prefill your filter before screwing it on, use the right oil and always change the filter. Use the OEM filters as the savings on a K Mart Fram isn't worth the effort/savings. At least the dealer will recognize you when you need a dealer only part, and he may apologize when he quotes you the price of what you need.
this thread did bring up an interesting point - why does the car "feel" better when washed, oil changed, and has a fresh tank of gas? Is it psycological?
Regards to all saabers.
PS. 2 Years? He should be hung by the balls until dead!
